Campaign to Re-Elect Mayor Sears
Holly Springs, NC
Welcome and Thank You for Visiting!

Thank you for visiting my campaign website.  I have been honored to serve as Mayor of Holly Springs since 2001.  It seems like each week brought new and exciting developments - and I hope to continue on as your Mayor.  I made the decision to run again based on my firm belief that there is still work to be done.  I hope to help our town to remain one of the most financial successful towns in North Carolina.  I hope to continue to encourage new business and services that enhance our quality of life.  I hope to maintain our unique opportunities that our young people enjoy to be involved and to ensure that their voices are heard.  I believe that it's more important than ever for us to work together and find solutions to remain a safe, strong and prosperous town.  Most of all, I hope to continue to work hard, ethically and enthusiastically, to keep Holly Springs the best big "small-town" it can possibly be.

I need your help.  All of our town's incredible accomplishments have taken a team - dedicated to positive change and thoughtful decisions.  Each one of us, each citizen, provides an important part of what makes our town great.  Please take the time to learn the facts and vote.  And if you would, consider joining my team today.  Just contact me through this website or by phone to get involved.  I sincerely appreciate each voice that contributes to our successful local government.

I am dedicated to improving our community by creating an environment of hope and optimism. I promise to work tirelessly to improve conditions in Holly Springs and affect positive change in our town government. I believe in the importance of working together to find solutions. And I will not waiver in the conviction to create a better community for all citizens.

During my two terms as your Mayor, Holly Springs has been honored by Relocate America as a Top 100 Places to Live (2008, 2009), by Forbes Magazine as the 18th Fastest Growing Suburb in America (2007), by Money Magazine's Top 20 Best Places to Live in the United States (2005) and 22nd in (2007), Money Magazine's Top 20 Best Places to Retire (2005), being named the Safest Town for its size in N.C. from SBI statistics (2005, 2007).

Financially, Holly Springs has the highest projected increase from a financial outlook in the town’s 2010 budget and the town has not seen a tax increase in eight years.  We have continued to attract desirable businesses, adding to the quality of life for our citizens and continuing to grow our commercial tax base.  We have maintained our infrastructure and capacity for growth in an intelligent and very successful manner.  The changes that Holly Springs has seen in the last 8 years have been dramatic and overwhelmingly positive.

My personal goals for the town include my commitment to work on behalf of the citizens to get a hospital and an urgent care facility. I would like to work towards a new community center, the enhanced downtown that includes more sidewalks, more choices for upscale, family-friendly restaurants and perhaps even a skateboard park and a dog park.

I have called Holly Springs home since 1995 and can't imagine living anywhere else.  It's a magical town, filled with incredible people and countless opportunity.  I hope that we can work together to continue our sound local government and effective growth.

Thank you for your interest and support.

Mayor's Message Holly Springs Mayor Dick Sears

On behalf of the approximately 22,000 citizens of Holly Springs, I welcome you to one of the fastest growing towns in North Carolina. We are a "customer friendly" town, and our citizens are our customers. In 2005 and 2007, we were the safest in North Carolina among towns over 10,000. People just want to live here.

In 1990, our population numbered just under 1,000.  Despite the rapid growth since, we still want to retain the best of small town life. We're addressing infrastructure needs such as water, sewer, and schools.  Roads remain a real challenge.  Our Public Works Department patches potholes and performs other maintenance that really is the state's responsibility.  However, this is an issue elsewhere in the state and nation.

One of our goals is to increase commercial development to balance our tax base and improve our quality of life and the convenience of our citizens. We continue to make giant strides in commercial development.  The pharmaceutical giant Novartis has begun working on a flu vaccine manufacturing facility here that will bring hundreds of well-paying jobs. Holly Springs Crossing, Harris Teeter Center and Walmart are other recent examples of development. More projects are on the radar screen.

In 2006, we celebrated the opening of our new Holly Springs High School. We've completed a new fire station. A combination Town library and Wake County library opened in December 2006. We await the opening of additional medical facilities and restaurants, plus exciting additions to one of our crown jewels, Bass Lake Retreat Center.

Education, public safety, and quality of life remain the most important strategic goals for Holly Springs .  As I have said perhaps too often, "If it's good for the kids, it's good for Holly Springs.” I think we have stayed the course on that concept. Our Town Staff and Town Board are working hard to build a town from the inside out.  Watching this progress is exciting.

Please stop by and visit anytime.  I am happy to talk with you and try to answer any questions you might have.  You are also invited to reach me via telephone or e-mail.  Holly Springs is a Town with an attitude, and that attitude is a positive one.  If you are thinking about moving here, you will be welcome.  It is a friendly place.
